My urge to write haikus has peaked, plateaued, and passed away. I need a change of mood. In my part of the U.S., we have developed nearly constant wind. This is a new pattern. It’s windy enough on many days to knock over empty trash cans, but that used to occur periodically anyway..
The problem now is its constancy and the fact that blowing over trash cans is the lowest level of movement. Some days, tree branches tumble to the ground. Then there are days when large trees topple over, victims of nearly gale-force winds.
My points in telling you my wind woes are 1.) I get to mention climate change; and 2.) I get to mention one of my wilder theories about humans being too powerful.
So here are my final two haikus (at least for a while):
Gusty, windy day
They arrive every day
Is this climate change?
What if human moods
Cause our weather conditions?
Wouldn’t that be strange?
